Research

AquaBiota conducts research on marine and freshwater issues, often from a geographical perspective. We use a wide range of both established and newly developed methods including statistical analysis and modelling. Generally, we use our research expertise in the performance of all our projects – in our research as well as in our applied assignments. We have frequently had a role as advisors or experts in various international contexts (EC Natura 2000, HELCOM, ASCOBANS, ICES), and also for the Swedish Environment Court. All AquaBiota’s co-workers have a university degree and a majority have a Ph.D. in various marine science disciplines.

Most of AquaBiota’s projects entail research to some degree. We have an internal system to finance our research, which means that we can participate in several research programs on the same terms as universities. Our research is partly carried out with backing from dedicated research funding sources (Formas, EU FP7, EU Bonus, the Swedish EPA’s research funding, the Research Council of Norway, etc.), but also projects funded by other programmes may have a large research component.

AquaBiota is eager to cooperate with other Swedish or international universities and research institutes. Our research results are regularly presented at conferences and workshops, as well as in scientific publications and reports.
