Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co (SKB)

Comprehensive maps of physical and biological parameters within two marine areas (Forsmark and Oskarshamn at the Swedish East coast) were developed by AquaBiota in 2007. The purpose was to create basis for a survey of suitable locations for storage of nuclear waste.

In Forsmark, we worked with aspects including light intensity at the bottom and secchi depth. Through spatial modelling of existing field data, we mapped the annual average biomass for five different functional groups of algae and three groups of fish.

Phytoplankton production per year was also calculated. In Oskarshamn, we produced maps of light intensity at the bottom, secchi depth and temperature. We modelled the annual average biomass for seven algal groups.
