Nicklas works with various GIS applications as well as spatial modelling of marine organisms and habitats. He previously worked at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, with distribution maps of fishes within the Aquamaps project. He also worked with the development of a national standard for databases for natural history collections. Nicklas studied biology and earth science at Stockholm University and finished his degree project at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in 2007. In his thesis, he examined species composition, biogeography and phylogeny of a group of neotropical cichlids. His degree includes aquatic ecology, fish- and fisheries biology, GIS and environmental conservation. Nicklas is also a professional photographer.
