In the autumn 2006, we conducted a joint project with divers Tång och Sånt for the Stockholm Country Administrative Board. Tång och Sånt conducted diving transects and grab sampling in the area that we, at AquaBiota, then used for spatial modelling of different species.
First, the distribution of different bottom substrates was modelled. This was then used as a basis for modelling the distribution of bladder wrack, filamentous algae, epiphytes on bladder wrack, detritus, sulphuric bacteria and Charophytes.
The seabed in the area was classed at EUNIS system level three or four, which is currently the highest possible for the Baltic Sea environment. A proposal was also prepared on how to calculate an environmental assessment index using these sorts of maps.

The picture gives an example on how environmental assesment indices can be calculated in the area of Svenska Högarna.
