Diving Inventories

AquaBiota has carried out diving inventories of bottom vegetation in several areas of the Bothnian Sea and Bothnian Bay , commissioned by the County administrative boards in Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten. The inventories had three main aims: to map and describe coastal marine Natura 2000 habitats, to provide data for evaluation of coastal water quality according to the EU Water frame directive and to set up a monitoring program for vegetated bottoms in the region.

The inventories followed the Swedish national methods for monitoring of shallow vegetated bottoms, i.e. transect inventories describing cover and depth distribution of all plants, macroalgae and sessile animals, as well as presence and abundance of mobile animals. The results are presented as reports and are made publicly available through the national database for marine inventories.
